Laser eye surgery cost can differ widely from one provider to another. The only thing that all providers have in common is that their prices are quoted per eye. So remember, when you are given a quote it for only one eye even if you are having both eyes corrected on the same day. That means the price that is quoted to you for a procedure doubles if you intend to have both eyes corrected. LASIK surgeons may add extra charges for additional technologies like wavefront analysis.

Another additional charge can be placed for the use of IntraLase, a LASIK procedure that uses a laser instead of a bladed instrument to make the incision or the flap on the front of the eye. In LASIK, this thin flap is lifted so that laser energy can be applied to shape the eye, serving as a natural bandage the flap is replaced.

And then there is the play on words or the ads with the fine print. If you see an ad that claims LASIK for $500 per eye, read the fine print. Not very many people can get this price, because most eyes need more extensive correction or extensive follow-up.

Prices

• Conventional LASIK procedures-$1,000 per eye

• LASIK with IntraLase--$1,000-$2,500 per eye

• TLC-$2,000 per eye plus an additional $350 to $500 per eye for the use of IntraLase

• CK-$1,500 to $2,000

• Refractive Lens Exchange-$2,500 to $4,500 per eye or more, depending on extra fees

Be sure to ask lots of question in regards to what a procedure actually costs beyond what is advertised. Make sure that you know what the total cost of the procedure will be or could be, for both eyes, including surgeon and facility fees and all other extras.
