Lap Band Surgery

If you desire to lose excessive body weight and/or improve your weight induced health conditions and improve your quality of life then lap band surgery may be just what you're looking for. Lab band surgery is just what it sounds like; it's an adjustable gastric band that is placed around the stomach just under the surface of skin on your abdomen.

The premises of this operation is to create a small pouch in the upper part of your stomach with the adjustable band, there are no staples, thus limiting your food intake. A 1 cm. incision in the abdomen is made and the band is placed around the top portion of the stomach. The pouch that is formed or the ‘new stomach' will reduce the capacity of food that your stomach can hold. The band has a balloon that is adjustable and is capable of reducing the stomach size extending the period of time that you fill full. This is a painless process; they inject saline into a port that is just under your skin. The surgery can usually takes anywhere from a half hour to an hour and is you will need to go under general anesthesia.

Advantages of lap band surgery :

• They don't cut your stomach or staple it

• The band can be adjusted without another surgery

• It can be removed laparoscopically

• It's 100% reversible

• You will be in the hospital less than 48 hours with this surgery

How much weight will I lose?

The amount of weight that you lose depends on a few things, is the band in the right position and are you committed to your new lifestyle and healthy eating habits? Lab band surgery is not the cure all, the pounds won't melt off, you will need to set attainable weight-loss goals from day one. Amazingly, it is possible for you to lose two to three pounds a week for the entire first year, but realistically, one pound a week is the norm with even less 12 to 18 months after the surgery. You weight loss should be gradual if you lose it too quickly you risk health problems. And the whole reason that you wanted to lose weight was to resolve, improve and prevent health issues that were tied to your obesity.

You will be on a liquid diet the first few weeks after surgery, as you heal, you will progress to solid foods. You should eat only three small meals a day making sure that they contain enough nutrients. It is important that you make good food choices, avoiding problem foods like high-fiber, high-fat, and dried foods, because these are difficult for your new stomach pouch to digest. Some good foods are fruits and vegetables, certain breads and cereals, some lean proteins and a few dairy products. Junk food should be avoided as much as possible. With the aid of the Lap Band you will reach your desired weight before you know it.
