Cosmetic Eye Surgery

Do you look great, but your eyes make you look older and tired? If that's the case, then cosmetic eye surgery may be for you. Droopy upper eyelids and puffy lower lids can be the cause for the way that your eyes look. The culprits that cause you to dislike your aging eyes are gravity and loose tissue under the skin. For most people, the only way to erase these signs of aging around the eyes is with cosmetic eye surgery.

Causes

Over the span of your life, the skin on your upper eyelid stretches and droops because of gravity. Every time that you blink it causes the elastic fibers in the skin and the muscle fibers of your eyelid to stretch. The stretching will eventually form a hood over the eyelid that can change your facial expression. Women notice this process more than men because they apply makeup to their upper lids. Other causes for this excess skin are genetics, allergies, and sometime if there is an excessive amount of swelling during pregnancy it can cause your upper eyelids to have an over abundance of skin.

If you have puffy or baggy lower eyelids this can make you look much older than you really are. This problem occurs when the membrane under the lid becomes weaker with age, allowing the fatty protective tissue around the eye to bulge forward. This pressure on the skin and muscles of the lower eyelid stretches them and that when you notice the puffiness or bags beneath your eyes. This can be caused by genetics and has been known to start in people as early as 10 years of age.

The fatty tissue can also hole water which will make your eyelids puffy in the morning when you wake up. Over the course of the day the fluid drains, but this added pressure only heightens what aging has already begun. So you can see why surgery is necessary and why creams and lotions are not going to assist you in this area in any way. You need to treat the root of the problem.

Eyelid Lift

In this procedure excess skin, muscle and fatty tissue that has accumulated are removed from the upper eyelids through an incision that is hidden in the natural creases above the eyelids. Even without makeup, the scars are very difficult to see.

For the lower lids, fatty tissue is removed by means of a transconjunctival process which simply means that the surgery is performed through the inside part of your eyelid so there won't be a visible scar associated with this procedure either. If you have excessive skin or muscle folds below your eye, it may be necessary for an incision to be made just below the base of your lashes. The fine scar is barely visible once the incision heals.

This cosmetic eye surgery is performed under local anesthesia and sometimes with light sedation. You will need someone to drive you home after the procedure. Bruising and swelling are normal after surgery and may take about a week to become less noticeable.
